Vilnius Airport set to launch passenger terminal renovation next month

“The terminal was designed to serve around 3.5 million passengers annually. This figure has already increased to 3.8 million over the past few years. This is why the decision was made to launch the terminal’s reconstruction as soon as possible,” Vilnius Airport CEO Olaf Martens said at a news conference on Tuesday.

According to Martens, the project will be carried out in several stages, with the initial renovation of the departure area planned to begin in February and be completed by the end of the year. The renovation of the apron and taxiways will start at a later stage and will last until early 2020.

The renovation of the whole passenger departure terminal is slated to begin next year and be completed in 2021.

The CEO said that the project will cost around 60 million euros, of which 23 million euros will go toward renovating the departure terminal, 20 million euros toward buying new equipment, 13 million euros toward renovating the apron and taxiways, 3 million euros toward renovating the traffic infrastructure, and 1 million euros toward renovating the old terminal.

Vilnius Airport last summer was closed for 35 days for an 18.7-million-euro renovation of its sole runway. The work was carried out by Latvia’s A.C.B and Lithuania’s Autokausta.
