Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius pressed the button illuminating the tree on the Cathedral Square on Friday night, in the presence of some 3,000 people. The tree, decorated with windows, reminds of a fairy tale house and is said to symbolize the meeting point between the private world and the external world.
Kaunas lit its Christmas tree on the Town Hall Square on Saturday evening. Designed by the artist Jolanta Šmidtienė, the tree is decorated with vintage decorations. Kaunas also boasts the first “smart” Christmas tree in the country: people will be able to have their photos with the tree automatically posted on line (www.kaunoeglute.lt).
