Vilnius court refuses to clarify its ruling on bilingual street signs

The court paid attention to the fact that by lodging such a request, the municipal director of administration raises doubts whether she is the person who must execute the ruling.

It’s not the court’s job to dispel such doubts, Sigita Jacinevičienė-Baltaduonė told BNS.

Vilnius District Municipality ‘s Director of Administration Liucina Kotlovska had asked the court to clarify whether bilingual street signs in the district must be removed by the administration director or the bailiff executing the court order, and also what should be done with the signs produced and put on buildings by private individuals.

The municipal official also said that under the order of the interior minister, the municipality must only take care of street signs attached to metal poles and dug into the ground. According to Kotlovska, the municipality now marks the streets this way.

Courts in Lithuania have numerous times ordered the local authorities in Vilnius District to remove bilingual Lithuanian-Polish street signs.
