Vilnius authorities have already made such a decision and Kaunas will discuss it during the upcoming council sitting.
The pope is coming to Vilnius on Sep. 22 which is also the World Car Free Day when cities are offering incentives to use public transport.
“Residents are already being invited to use public transport on that day as Europe s marking the World Car Free Day on that day. This is way the city council has already made the decision,” Aleksandras Zubriakovas, an adviser to the Vilnius mayor, told BNS Lithuania.
Meanwhile, the pope is scheduled to visit Kaunas on Sep. 23, and Kaunas authorities plan to move the free public transport day to Sep. 23.
