Vilnius’ Liberals sign deal with Poles, SocDems, Order and Justice

The four political groups hold 32 out of 51 seats at the council.

The deal sets out 18 priorities, starting with the development of kindergartens and implementation of a national stadium project and ending with support for national minorities’ cultural centers and updating of the city’s general plan.

“The political groups committed themselves to continuing, at a faster pace, the work started during this tenure and place a greater focus on the following commonly agreed priorities: education, urban growth, corporate governance and enhancing the city’s competitiveness, and increased protection of the interests of Vilniusites,” Šimašius said in a press release.

The Liberals announced in early October that they were ending their cooperation with the Homeland Union at the capital’s council. The Lithuanian Freedom Union (Liberals) of Artūras Zuokas, a former mayor of Vilnius, also stays in the opposition.
