Trade union of public transport company Vilniaus Viešasis Transportas has taken action when drivers’ salaries for August were late. The head of the union Jonas Dekaminavičius has said that based on collective agreement wages have to be paid between 11-16 of each month. However, drivers started to consider going on strike as they were paid only on 2 October.
According to the head of the union, on 9 October the Mayor of Vilnius Artūras Zuokas sent Deputy Mayor Romas Adomavičius to meet the drivers. A letter signed by Gintaras Nakutis, director of he public transport company Vilniaus Viešasis Transportas, was submitted. The letter provided guarantees that wages would be paid on time and the deputy mayor vouched for this.
Salaries for September were paid on time as agreed, but the union says that if payment is late again in November, drivers will strike.
