Vilnius to green light city centre crematorium?

Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius says that he will advice the city council to vote against a proposal to build a crematorium on Olandų Street, near the existing funeral home.

The site is part of Pavilniai Regional Park and is adjacent to an old Jewish cemetery. Moreover, local community has expressed opposition to the project.

A phone survey of about 1,000 people by Vilnius authorities indicate that most people, almost 74%, would like to have a crematorium, but not in the city centre.
