What are Lidl’s expansion plans in Lithuania?

Agnė Gaižauskienė, spokeswoman for Lidl Lietuva, has refused to reveal how big a network the retailer is planning in Lithuania.

“Having opened the first stores in Lithuania, we are continuing with expansion. We are planning to open over 20 stores this year and we will surely inform the public about it. We understand your interest, but we would not like to rush things. We hope you will understand our policy to refrain from commenting on issues related to the company’s strategy and investment, due to reasons of competition,” Gaižauskienė told DELFI.

On June 2, Lidl opened five stores in Vilnius, two in Kaunas and one store in each of the following eight towns: Klaipėda, Kretinga, Šiauliai, Kėdainiai, Marijampolė, Alytus, Mažeikiai and Telšiai.

While Lild would not comment on the specifics of its expansion plans, local media report that the company has agreed to purchase a building by the coach station in Ukmėrgė.

Lild has also reportedly been purchasing properties in Panevėžys.

Other reports suggest that the German retailer has plans to open stores in Utena, Tauragą, Jonava and Plungė.
