Youth unemployment declining in Lithuania

According to the statement released by the Ministry of Welfare and Labour, during the first half of 2014, 29,700 young jobseekers under 29 years old were employed.

On 1 July, 26,700 jobseekers under 29 were registered by the Lithuanian Labour Exchange; it is 14,400 fewer compared to 1 July 2013.

At present, the under-29s constitute eight percent of the total unemployed; it is several percent fewer as compared to the same period last year.

During the first half of this year, 41,700 jobseekers aged 16-29 turned to local labour exchange offices; it is 14.2 percent fewer compared to the same period last year. Every fourth young jobseeker under 25 years old is a college graduate. Two thirds of them have been registering in June-September.

During January-June 2014, the Lithuanian Labour Exchange has provided employment intermediation services to two out of three registered young jobseekers under 29.
