85 percent of Russian citizens in Lithuania voted for Putin – embassy

A total of 4,487 Russian citizens voted Lithuania, which puts the voter turnout at 39 percent, the Russian Embassy said.

According to the data provided by the embassy, Putin was supported by 3,834 voters or 85 percent of those who came to polling stations.

Communist candidate, billionaire Pavel Grudinin, secured 240 votes (5.3 pct) and television hostess Ksenia Sobchak was backed by 129 (2.9 pct).

The embassy has not provided the number of votes received by other candidates.

Russia’s central electoral authority has said that the country’s presidential elections were triumphant for Putin who secured around 77 percent of the vote.

Putin became the head-of-state of Russia on Dec. 31 of 1999 after being appointed as acting president by then Russian President Boris Yeltsin.

He was first elected to the post on March 26 of 2000 and later re-elected in 2004 and 2012. In 1999-2000 and 2008-2012, Putin headed the Russian government.
