Paksas was questioned on Monday. Special witness status means that there is evidence suggesting that the person could be involved in crimes, but not enough to bring official charges.
BNS has not been able to reach Paksas for comment.
Vice-Minister of Environment Algirdas Genevičius, also of the Order and Justice party, has said he was questioned as a witness as part of the same investigation last week. He refused to comment on what the investigation was about.
“I truly don’t know, some trivial matter that I’m hard-pressed to recall now,” Genevičius said.
