The president and the ambassador discussed bilateral relations between Lithuania and Mexico as well as ways of strengthening economic and legal cooperation.

The two countries have already signed agreements on waving visa requirement for holders of diplomatic and service passports as well as an agreement on avoiding double income taxation and preventing tax evasion. According to the president, the signing of cooperation agreements on legal assistance in criminal cases and on extradition would allow Lithuania and Mexico to work together more closely in the field of justice.

The president has pointed out that bilateral economic cooperation – which is not intensive at the present moment – should be expanded and that an agreement on promoting and protecting investments will contribute to this purpose.

Agustin Gasca Pliego, 68, was Under-Secretary of Intermediate and Higher Education from 2001 to 2003 and General Director of Mexico’s State Institute of Culture from 2005 to 2011. It is his first appointment as ambassador. Agustin Gasca Pliego speaks Spanish and English. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, a Master’s degree in administration and a Doctor’s degree in public services.
