During the two-day meeting, Lithuania’s Environment Minister Kęstutis Trečiokas, Latvia‘s Environmental Protection and Regional Development Minister Edgars Tavars and Estonia‘s Environment Minister Marko Pomerants will discuss water protection and climate change issues, the Lithuanian Ministry of Environment said.
In the area of water protection, the focus will be on management of river basins, development of sea protection programs, improvement of ecologic condition of waters and promotion of international cooperation. In the discussion of climate change, the participants of the meeting will exchange opinions on revision of the EU emissions trading scheme and financing of efforts against climate change.
The Baltic Council of Ministers is one of the main institutions of governmental cooperation among the Baltic states. Lithuania presides over the institution this year.
