The logo features the Iron Wolf from the legend of Vilnius, against the background of a basketball, as well as, the shape of Gediminas Castle and the Columns of Gediminas.
Every detail of the new logo means something to the people of Vilnius and Lithuania, the club said in a statement. The club’s main colors of black, white and red remain unchanged.
“One of the rulers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Vilnius founder Gediminas was determined that the name “Vilnius” should be known around the world. His determination is hidden in the legend of the Iron Wolf. The logo of BC Rytas reminds that his will and determination will always stay alive and can never be broken,” Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius was quoted in the statement. “I believe that the rebranded Rytas club will turn that will and passion into victories which will continue spreading the name of Lithuania’s capital around the globe.”
BC Rytas changed its name a year after Gedvydas Vainauskas, head of the Lietuvos Rytas media group, the club’s main sponsor, resigned as the club’s president.
The basketball club will also start the new season with a new slogan of “Together we are Rytas“, replacing “Together we are a team”.
