Col. Baltrėnas takes over as Lithuania’s military intelligence chief

Baltrėnas took over from Šiuparis as director of the Second Investigation Department under the Ministry of National Defence in a ceremony on Monday, the ministry said in a press release.

Baltrėnas was deputy director of the department before National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas appointed him as director.

Šiuparis, who had headed the department since 2012, has been appointed Lithuania’s defence attaché to the US and Canada.

The Second Investigation Department performs intelligence and counterintelligence in defence, military-political, military-economic and military-technical fields.
