According to Graužinienė, after parliament approved military conscription, it should not return to the issue again.
“In many cases (military units) are manned with volunteers, I hope this will be the same in the future as well. Thus there is no need to return (to solely professional army),” the parliament speaker told the radio Žinių Radijas.
The Lithuanian Parliament approved 9-month continuous mandatory initial military service in April 2015. Conscription will be in effect for the next five years.
