Farmers and Greens propose Economy Minister Sinkevičius for European Commission

The chairman of the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union told reporters at the Seimas on July 25 morning that the Farmers and Greens had elected their candidate for the European Commission. The party supports the nomination of the Minister of Economy and Innovation, Virginijus Sinkevičius. He is also the Vice-Chairman of the party, lrytas.lt reported.

‘The political group supports Mr Sinkevičius’ candidacy unanimously. Our political will of the Farmers and Greens’ group and I think of the party as a whole is that Mr Sinkevičius should be nominated as a European Commissioner,’ the Farmers and Greens leader said.

He has so far been reluctant to comment on the plan as to whether the Ministry of Economy and Innovations would be handed over to the “Order and Justice” party. The party did not receive a ministerial portfolio after the coalition talks so far.

“I can’t answer that question right now,” Karbauskis said. ‘He (Sinkevičius) is among those discussed, named. We said that we, most likely, will not vote for any other candidate in the Seimas,” said the Farmers and Greens leader.
