General Breedlove assures he has good understanding of threats faced by Baltics

On Wednesday, General Breedlove met with Lithuania’s National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas and Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas. The National Defence Ministry announced that the meeting addressed US security measures and the implementation of the NATO Readiness Action Plan in the Baltic region.

General Breedlove emphasised the necessity to continue strengthening security and ensuring stability in the Baltic region. He said the Alliance must continue to adapt to operate in the changed security environment and counter new threats.

In turn, National Defence Minister Olekas stated that long-term continuous presence of NATO forces, as well as deployment of weaponry and equipment, is the most effective measure ensuring the security of the Baltic States.

According to the minister, the goal is to achieve that NATO rotation forces deployed in the region would be increased to the size of a brigade or a battalion in each Baltic State.
