Government to mull National Security Strategy

After the draft was endorsed by the State Defence Council in September, Artūras Paulauskas, chairman of the parliamentary National Security and Defence Committee, said that the strategy had been updated in the wake of changes to the security situation in the region. The document was last updated in 2012.

“The draft features updated national security background and interests, an actualized list of risk factors, national security hazards and threats, updated and specified priorities and tasks for implementation of national security policies, consolidated decisions taken in response to the changed state security situation, changes in the public, energy, economic, information and cyber security, bilateral cooperation and other fields. In light of the changing character of threats, the draft no longer includes provisions that have no direct impact upon national security of the Republic of Lithuania,” reads an explanatory note.
