Grigelis advances to semifinals of President’s Cup

On Wenesday, (July 22), Laurynas Grigelis (23, ATP 322) continued his dominance in the tournament with a two-set straight victory over the Dutch player Tallon Greikspoor (19, ATP 1030) with score 6-2, 6-2. The Lithuanian won with the same score over the Belarussian Ivan Liutarevich (19, ATP 1254).

Grigelis, who is seeded second in the tournament, was to play in the quarter-finals against Ivan Nedelko (29, ATP 542), but the Russian retired after the first game of the match and gave a resting day to the Lithuanian and the ticket to the semifinals.

Nedelko, before the retirement, managed to win against another Lithuanian rival, Dovydas Šakinis (23, ATP 2004) in a straight set match 6-2, 7-6(4).

In the doubles quarterfinals, Tadas Babelis and Kasparas Žamaitėlis qualified for the semifinals, beating brothers Julius and Aleksas Tverijonas. Babelis and Žamaitelis won in three sets match 6-3, 6-7(4), 10-3. In the semifinals, the Lithuanian couple will perform against the Latvian–American couple of Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese, who won against the Russians Ilya Lebedev and Yan Sabanin in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 10-6. Babelis and Žamaitelis will have to work hard in order beat Libietis and Reese who are seeded third.

Grigelis also dominated the doubles where, paired with Lukas Mugevičius, he advanced to the semifinals after easy straight set victory 6-1, 6-0 against the British–Russian couple of Samm Butler and Ronald Slobodchikov. In the semifinals, the second seeded Lithuanians will play against the Polish Pawel Cias and Maciej Nowak, who are seeded in the fourth place in the doubles tournament.
