Both businessmen are suspected of involvement in a case of bribery which also has Lithuanian MEP Rolandas Paksas as a suspect.
Vainauskas allegedly offered a €10,000 bribe to Paksas who had to influence inspectors at the Environment Ministry to sign off on a new Norfa supermarket in Prienai, a town in southern Lithuania.
Paksas is the leader of the Order and Justice party, as is the minister of the environment.
The case of Paksas was separated into a separate probe so that prosecutors could proceed with other cases while waiting for the European Parliament‘s decision on lifting of Paksas’ legal immunity.
Prosecutors have yet to bring charges against Paksas.
