On Monday, the government supported the ministry’s proposal to modernize the interior system’s radio communication network and software, as well as establish additional stations to ensure full coverage of the country’s coverage.
“The coverage is now more than 90 percent, (…), therefore, the are still places where an officer would be difficult to reach,” Interior Minister Eimutis Misiunas told BNS at the government.
In his words, the communication network and software needs modernization, as part of the infrastructure has not been modernized since 2008.
“The equipment is currently out of date and no longer meets the cyber security standards,” said the minister.
The government should make its final decision in connection to the modernization next week. According to calculations made by the ministry, the move would cost about 5.3 million euros.
