Kazakh, Belarusian arms inspectors to visit NATO exercise

The inspectors will be given briefings by the commanders of the Lithuanian Land Force, the Mechanized Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf and the Lithuanian Great Hetman Jonušas Radvila Training Regiment.

In line with the Vienna Document 2011, the inspectors will also be given an opportunity to fly over a chosen area by a Lithuanian Air Force airplane.

Kazakhstan’s officers will prepare reports to member states of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to present their findings as to Lithuania’s compliance with international arms control agreements.

It will be the third arms control inspection to be carried out by foreign countries in Lithuania this year within the framework of the 2011 Vienna Document.

Lithuanian arms control inspectors have this year inspected military units in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

The Vienna Document 2011 commits signatory countries to conduct information exchange on their military forces, defense capability development plans and defense budgets on an annual basis, and to notify other OSCE countries in advance of scheduled military activities. States also commit themselves to accepting a designated number of inspections and evaluation visits by other member states’ military inspectors to their military units.
