As reported, following a Lithuanian court decision, the European Court of Justice granted permission for the arrest of the Latvian national airline airBaltic and Riga International Airport’s property in the amount of EUR 57.92 million. This decision would make it possible for the creditors of the now-defunct Lithuanian airline to claim damages caused by alleged underhand dealings on the part of airBaltic.
Matiss said that it was odd that the claim was satisfied, as it concerned strategic state infrastructure and state-owned assets.
“The issue is not only of concern to airBaltic, but also the Riga International Airport and its entire infrastructure. We must do everything we can in order to solve these legal matters,” the minister stressed.
Matiss explained that the claim was satisfied with the court “practically reviewing nothing”.
