Besides the bronze medal, the Lithuanians continued competing in several Olympic finals and getting good results.
High jump
Lithuanian athlete Airinė Palšytė (24) advanced to the finals after finishing 11th in the qualifications where she managed to jump 1.94 meters high.
Canoeing
In the beginning of the final race in the K-2 200m event, it was clear to Aurimas Lankas (30) and Edvinas Ramanauskas (31) that they were going for a medal. And indeed, they stood in their goal by winning the bronze medal finishing the distance in 32.382 seconds, only 0.014 behind the silver medallists from Great Britain Liam Heath and Jon Schofield. The fastest couple in the event were the Spaniards Saúl Craviotto and Cristian Toro, who stopped the time at 32.075 seconds.
The silver medallist from the 2016 European Championship Henrikas Žustautas (24) competed in the C-1 200m final B event where he finished third with a time of 40.230 seconds and took the 11th position overall. Ukrainian Yuriy Cheban claimed the gold with the time of 39.279 seconds and also set a new Olympic record.
Valentin Demyanenko from Azerbaijan took the silver with 39.493 seconds while a local favourite, Brazilian canoer Isaquias Queiroz, sent the crowd jubilant when he won bronze with the time of 39.629 seconds.
Ričardas Nekriošius (29) and Andrej Olijnik (28) competed in the K-2 1,000m finals where they took the fifth place. The Lithuanians’ time was 3:14.748 minutes while the gold medal winners, Germany’s Max Rendschmidt and Marcus Gross, finished the distance in 3:10.781 minutes. The silver medal went to Serbians Marko Tomićević and Milenko Zorić whose time was 3:10.969, while Australians Ken Wallace and Lachlan Tame claimed the bronze medal with 3:12.593 minutes.
Modern Pentathlon
The 2013 world champion Justinas Kinderis (29) opened his competition in the fencing event which is a part of modern pentathlon. The Lithuanian scored 208 points in the event which put him in the 20th spot overall so far.
London Olympics gold medallist Laura Asadauskaitė (32) is hoping to repeat her achievement in Rio. In the fencing event that opened the modern pentathlon competition, she grabbed 214 points that gave her the 11th place. Her compatriot Ieva Serapinaitė (21) will have to improve in the next events if she wants to have a chance to compete for a medal. In the fencing event, Serapinaitė finished 25th with 190 points.
