The Lithuanian prime minister discussed possibilities for gas imports with his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, in Israel on Tuesday.
“We said that we have our (FSRU) vessel and that our terminal is different, an offshore one. He told us that they will most probably launch their new gas terminal in the second half of next year,” Butkevičius told BNS by telephone from Jerusalem.
“Certainly, we cannot speak about gas exports until 2017, but at specialists’ level, this issue could be discussed as soon as next year to look into transport costs and transportation possibilities,” he said.
Israel has discovered large amounts of natural gas in recent years, but production is not planned to begin until 2016.
