Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius describes the situation in Estonia as “a period of uncertainty” and hopes that it will not last long.
“This is an internal affair of Estonia. Certainly, we wish them to form a new government as quickly as possible, because they have some serious work ahead of them. Estonia is to take over the EU presidency shortly and is facing a long of challenges. We hope that this period of uncertainty will be over soon,” he told BNS on Wednesday evening.
According to Mindaugas Jurkynas, a political scientist at Vytautas Magnus University, it appears that the Center Party, which is supported by the Russian-speaking population, may receive seats in Estonia’s next Cabinet and even lead the new coalition.
In his words, if the Social Democrats, the Conservatives and the Centre Party agree to form a new government, the new coalition may give more focus to social problems, but these changes are unlikely to affect Estonia’s foreign policy.
