Lithuania foreign minister calls for more pressure on Russia over Georgia

“In my opinion, we are not responding adequately as our response should be much stricter. In general, the so-called demarcation lines are illegal not only because we do not recognise the occupation but overall, that line with a barbed fence, where I have recently been to, by the way, is completely unlawful. And now the recent attempts to quietly move it kilometre after kilometre towards Georgia is aggravating the situation even more,” said the minister on the radio Žinių Radijas on Tuesday morning.

According to him, the purpose of these steps is to lessen Western authority.

“I believe the goal was to provoke even bigger tensions, perhaps, to show the inactiveness of Western community in order to undermine the authority of Western countries and the European Union even more in the eyes of citizens of Georgia. All the more so because the recent action was interesting as the line was moved closer to a very sensitive highway and pipeline, which fuelled the tensions,” he said.
