Lithuania launches ‘open consultation’ on new 2050 National Energy Strategy

The strategy will define Lithuania’s energy opportunities and goals up to 2050.

The document will cover renewable resources, integration with Western Europe’s electrical grid, and other strategic questions. Currently, Lithuania is looking to disconnect itself from Russia’s electricity system.

The Ministry of Energy said the amount of electricity the country may need in the future will be discussed in open consultations with scientists, business groups and politicians.

They will also discuss how much of this power Lithuania will produce itself and how much will be imported from other states.

Currently, the Lithuanian Energy Institute has prepared two potential future scenarios which will be presented to neighbouring countries as well.

It is hoped that the final project will be ready for the Seimas to discuss this autumn.
