Lithuania opens honorary consulate in Istanbul

During the inauguration ceremony, the president said it should become a Lithuanian oasis bringing the people of Lithuania and Turkey even closer together, the Lithuanian President’s Office said.

Local businessman Sarper Cengiz employed at Sarper Petrol oil company was appointed as Lithuania’s honorary consul. He is also a board member of the Association of Turkish Gas and Oil Companies.

In Grybauskaitė’s words, the new honorary consulate could become the starting point for Lithuanian companies willing to get more business contacts in Istanbul, Turkey’s economic, commercial and financial hub. The consulate will provide actual consular assistance in the megalopolis of 15 million residents.

In Turkey, Lithuania operates honorary consulates in Antalya, Mersin, Bursa and Izmir.
