Lithuania supports international fight against nuclear terrorism

The first Sherpa Meeting in Vilnius was organised by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the US White House, the Department of State and the Embassy in Lithuania.

The Nuclear Security Summit will take place on 31 March – 1 April 2016 in Washington, D.C.

The first Nuclear Security Summit was held in Washington, DC, 2010. The second Nuclear Security Summit was held in Seoul, South Korea, 2012. Participating countries included the 47 countries that attended the 2010 Nuclear Security Summit plus Azerbaijan, Denmark, Gabon, Hungary, Lithuania, and Romania. The third Nuclear Security Summit was held in The Hague, 2014, and attended by President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.

Lithuania contributes to the prevention of nuclear terrorism, builds national capacities and strengthens cooperation with other countries and international organisations in the fight against illicit trafficking of nuclear or other radioactive material.
