Lithuania to fit out premises in Rome for embassy needs

A total of 11 companies, including one Italian, submitted tenders in the competition.

In acquisition documents, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said that design work will have to be completed within nine months after the signing of the contract, with the repairs to be finished over the following six months.

Lithuania received the premises in the Blumenstihl palace as compensation for its pre-war embassy building Villa Lituania, which was taken over by the Soviet Union during World War II.

The contract on handover of the premises to Lithuania was signed with Italy in 2012 and ratified by the lower and upper parliamentary chambers later that year, followed by presidential signing.

Russian diplomats still work in Villa Lituania.
