“A simulated tabletop exercise for officials from institutions shaping and implementing Lithuania’s defence and security polices are being planned for late April,” the Defence Ministry’s Public Information Division has confirmed to BNS.
According to information available to BNS, those likely to be invited to take part in the exercise include the ministers for defense, foreign affairs and interior affairs and members of the parliament’s Committee on National Security and Defence, as well as officials from bodies responsible for national security.
The exact scenario will be unknown to the participants until the start of the drill.
Vytautas Bakas, chairman of the Seimas Committee on National Security and Defence, told BNS that “the aim is to try to simulate scenarios related to possible security changes and security challenges and try to simulate a possible response.”
“Real threats will be simulated, for example, cyber attacks or information attacks, more serious than until now,” the parliamentarian said.
The US think tank Atlantic Council will help hold the exercise.
