“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has already prepared the note and will send it to the Republic of Lithuania’s Embassy to the Republic of Belarus today, which will forward it to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry without delay,” the ministry said in a comment to BNS.
The agreement on founding the international checkpoint will be completed after the Belarusian Foreign Ministry sends a note to Lithuania.
Once the status of the Šumskas-Losha checkpoint is upgraded to international, it will be open to persons regardless of their citizenship, cars with the maximum weight of 3,500 kg and under eight seats for passengers and one seat for driver, as well as buses regardless of their country of origin.
The checkpoint is now only intended for local communication.
Currently, Lithuania has five international border crossing points for automobiles and two for railways.
