Lithuania ups dialogue on security and defence policy with Eastern Partnership countries

The discussion is focused on the possibilities of the Eastern Partnership countries to be more actively involved in civil CSDP missions. The sides are sharing experience gained when participating in or receiving such missions.

Lithuanian representative at the EU Political and Security Committee, Ambassador Petras Kamaitis noted that the EU and Eastern Partnership countries must strengthen co-operation in the areas of security and defence. It is especially relevant now, when security of certain EU and Eastern Partnership countries is under direct threat.

Participants of the event were introduced to co-operation between the United Nations, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and NATO when solving international crises.

The first meeting was summoned by Lithuania a year ago when it presided over the Council of the EU in the second half of 2013.
