He was commenting on Belarus’ decision to allow citizens of 80 countries, including Lithuania, to stay in Belarus for up to five days without a visa if they arrive to the country via Minsk Airport.

In Linkevičius’ words, the travel regime is not particularly relevant for Lithuanians, who usually travel to the neighboring country by land.

“This is a step toward opening up to, but I want to remind you that since 2010 we have been discussing the so-called local border traffic regime, which would substantially facilitate cross-border travel for those living within a 50-kilometer radius on both sides of the border,” the minister told BNS.

“We have not yet received a response from Belarus on this issue. Our people do not use the airport so often. Land travel is more important for them,” he added.
