“We are going through a difficult period with Russia’s military aggression in the east of Europe, an influx of refugees from Africa in the south and an economic crisis in Greece, which has become a financial lesson for the whole EU. We need joint effort and solidarity to address these challenges,” the Lithuanian president was quoted as saying in the statement.
Italian fighter jets and troops are currently contributing to the protection of the Baltic airspace, and Lithuanian will contribute to the resolution of the refugee problem, the statement underlined.
Grybauskaitė is also scheduled to visit Milan during her Italian visit and will open an exhibition dedicated to the history of diplomatic and cultural relations between Lithuania and Italy at Sforza Castle on Wednesday.
She will also launch the Lithuanian National Day at Expo 2015 in Milan.
