“We have prepared a memorandum of cooperation that is currently being finalized by Economics Minister (Dana Reizniece-Ozola) on the Latvia side and by Energy Minister (Rokas Masiulis) on the Lithuanian side. We hope that this memorandum will be agreed upon and signed in the near future,” Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma told reporters in Rokiskis after a joint sitting of the Lithuanian and Latvian governments.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius said that he could not say yet how the costs of operating the Klaipėda liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal would decrease if Latvia purchased gas from Lithuania.
“That would depend on what amount of gas would be purchased, because that would probably reduce somewhat infrastructure costs. I think that this cooperation, which has started, gives very positive hopes for the future. I can’t say today by how much the price could go down,” he told reporters.
The Lithuanian and Latvian ministers presented a clear vision of what will be done in this area, Butkevičius said.
