Lithuanian biathlonist disqualified for doping

“The athlete has not been in contact with the national team since late January after information about his offense was received from the IBU,” Arūnas Daugirdas, president of the Lithuanian Biathlon Federation, told BNS. “From that moment he shut in, perhaps wanting to distance himself from all these things. He regretted to have used supplements without consulting doctors.”

Daugirdas said the absence of doctors in the national biathlon team might be one of the reasons for the incident.

“We are in a vicious circle as we have no money for doctors as there are no results, and sports officials says “no results – no money”. We are trying to prove that we really can pursue high results, but winter sports are really underfunded,” he said.
