Lithuanian deputy foreign minister: We must find optimal solutions to European energy policy challenges

Kriščiūnas noted that energy supplies and the development of adequate energy infrastructure are as significant as ever before.

“It is obvious that both Lithuania and other EU member states must strengthen co-operation in the field of energy with such countries as the USA, Canada, Norway and Australia. The EU should support projects that open European energy market to new external energy suppliers from the Mediterranean and Caspian seas,” said the deputy minister.

Kriščiūnas noted that proposal for the EU Energy Union is not only about security and co-ordination, but also a new approach seeking co-operation between EU member states in dealing with energy-related issues. Lithuania welcomes this proposal, since it is based on fundamental principles that are of major significance to energy security – solidarity and trust in other member states, coordination, joint investment, development of true energy market and speaking with one voice.

On 8 October in Vilnius, the magazine Valstybė organised the annual energy forum that brought together representatives of the authorities, politicians, Lithuanian and foreign energy experts, representatives of Lithuanian energy companies. They analysed key developments in the field of energy in Lithuania, Europe and the world, as well as their impact on the economy.
