According to information provided by the central Bank of Lithuania, transfers from private individuals to Lithuania totalled 5.3 billion litas (EUR 1.54bn) last year. In the first half of 2013, the sum was 2.2 billion litas, as compared to 2.7 billion litas in January-June this year. Consequently, the sum reaching Lithuania in the first semester of year is already 500 billion litas more year-on-year.
Statistics from previous years suggest that the last quarter of the year, the holiday season, is usually the most generous – nearly 1.5 billion litas were transferred to Lithuania in the last quarter of 2013, indicating a rise by about 130 million litas from the earlier quarter.
