Lithuanian expatriates want decisions on dual citizenship and e-voting

These and other issues important for Lithuanians living abroad were discussed during the annual meeting of the WLC regional leaders in the Lithuanian western port of Klaipėda on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“The first day of the meeting focused on dual citizenship. The WLC position is that a referendum would not solve this problem as it would be pushed for years,” she told BNS.

Henke believes the recent sluggish presidential and European elections in Lithuania once again showed the need for decisions to attract more voters abroad. In her words, the legalization of e-voting would be the best solution.

The WLC meeting also discussed having a WLC representative in the Seimas. Laws would have to be amended for that, Henke noted, as a special constituency for Lithuanians living abroad would have to be set up.

The WLC represents Lithuanian communities in 41 countries.
