Lithuanian fire-fighters prepare humanitarian aid for Ukraine

About 64,000-euro-worth of sleeping bags, tents, folding beds, generators, heaters and other necessities will be delivered to Ukraine to set up a camp for 100 evacuated residents, the Fire-and-Rescue Department said.

The department acted in response to a call received on 27 August from the Ukrainian government via NATO’s Civil Emergency Planning division (CEP CME) to provide the vital living conditions for more than 190,000 Ukrainian citizens relocated from Donetsk and Luhansk due to fighting and clashes.

An agreement has been reached with the Ministry of National Defence that the dispatch will be delivered together with the necessities, clothing and food products collected from ordinary Lithuanians by the public establishment Aspectus Memoria.

The items will be delivered by two trucks, accompanied by logistics and evaluation experts.

The trucks are planned to leave the department’s school in Vilnius district on Wednesday.

The first shipment of humanitarian aid to Ukraine was airlifted by Air Force plane C-27J Spartan earlier on Tuesday.
