Lithuanian government simplifies visa process for foreign workers

The move is expected to facilitate the development of business and promote investment and will cut wait times from four months to as little as 15 days.

The head of Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists Robertas Dargis said that the previous system was difficult and caused Lithuania to lose potential employees.

After the enactment of the amendments, the government will create a list of occupations that face the largest skill shortages. Temporary residence permits would be issued for professionals of these occupations within 1 month or within 15 days. Currently, the same procedure takes four months to complete.

The proposed temporary residence permit is to be simplified for startup founders and their families. Those eligible would be required to set up and start a business – failure to do so would result in the authorization being revoked.
