Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius noted that both nations are united by common history and culture, which is symbolized by personalities like Adam Mickiewicz and Czeslaw Milosz. Linkevičius stressed that Lithuania and Poland must continue close bilateral and multilateral cooperation and further build free and secure Europe.
Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius congratulated Prime Minister of Poland Ewa Kopacz: “I sincerely wish the Government of Poland and its people every success, prosperity and wellbeing in the future. I believe that by trusting in each other’s support and understanding, and by taking joint effort we will be able to accomplish the vision of a safe, prosperous and future-oriented community.”
Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė said that Lithuania and Poland – closest neighbours and allies – had overcome many serious historical challenges and were now independent, strong and proud members of the European family of democratic nations. She underlined that bilateral relations based on common objectives were growing stronger by the will and efforts of the people of both countries.
“Working together within the European Union and NATO, our countries successfully protect common interests in the region and meet the challenges arising to our nations and the whole of Europe, this way creating a strong, secure, open, democratic and united Europe,” the president wrote in her message of congratulations to Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski.
Grybauskaitė wished the Polish people continued strength, well-being and prosperity.
