They are scheduled to meet with the management of the nuclear facility, representatives of the State Border Guard Service‘s Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant Security Brigade, the management of Visaginas Municipality as well as local businesspeople, the Seimas’ Public Relations Unit said on Tuesday.
The national security situation in Visaginas needs more attention, the committee’s chairman Artūras Paulauskas says.
“We need to realize the importance of the nuclear plant’s physical protection, work related to its closure, the microclimate and the sentiment of local people. It’s very important for us to talk to the local community directly without any intermediates, with people who work and live there and learn their sentiments and their expectations,” the politician said.
Ignalina’s first reactor was switched off on December 31, 2004 in compliance with Lithuania’s EU membership commitments. The second reactor was closed on December 31, 2009.
