For some time, users were not able to access the websites of the biggest online news portals. However, access was soon restored.
According to experts interviewed by DELFI, the disturbance might have been part of preparations for a major cyber attack against Lithuania. The assault, they add, might happen in the near future.
Meanwhile 15min.lt, one of the affected websites, reports that the incident was merely a technical hiccup and not any orchestrated attempt to derail Lithuania’s online media.
According to 15min.lt, since all major online news outlets in Lithuania use services of the same companies, it is not unlikely that some technical malfunction could affect all of them simultaneously.
