Lithuanian parliament speaker not hopeful about Minsk peace talks

“We have to expect it to be a positive meeting with some positive outcomes, which would be an achievement already, as the situation is very tense. World politicians are making every effort to bring the situation back to normal. However, my hopes are not high,” Graužinienė told the Žinių Radijas news radio on Wednesday morning.

In her words, her attitude is based on the reaction of European leaders after the three-country meetings: “If we go deeper into the information from the three-country meetings, I am not very optimistic when I look at (Germany’s) Chancellor (Angela Merkel), at least in public.”

“We have indeed a lot of information I don’t want to elaborate on, and the main issue is about Europe itself, about European integrity and the strength of Europe,” said the Lithuanian parliamentary speaker.

Russian, French, German and Ukrainian leaders are due to assemble in Minsk later on Wednesday for peace talks.
