Lithuanian parties expanding abroad

“We received signals from Washington, Chicago and Punsk which have big populations of our country’s citizens,” said Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulienė, deputy chairwoman of the Homeland Union.

The party also has chapters in Germany and Belgium.

The Social Democratic Party is considering to set up a chapter in Brussels, according to the party’s deputy chairman Algirdas Sysas. The Lithuanian social democrats have representations in London and Chicago.

The Liberal Movement has the biggest presence among the Lithuanian expatriate communities with six party chapters abroad: in Ireland, Australia, Belgium, the US, Great Britain and Germany.

The foreign groups of Lithuanian parties have up to several dozen members each.
