Lithuanian-Polish interparlt assembly might take place this year, MP says

“It’s difficult to set a date as we also have the tripartite Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian assembly which is gathering in November. So it’s likely that our bilateral assembly might gather in December,” he told BNS Lithuania on Tuesday.

Nekrocius and another four Lithuanian lawmakers met with representatives of the Polish Sejm and Senate in Warsaw on Monday and Tuesday. In his words, ethnic minority, education, energy security, power grid synchronization and defense issues were discussed during the meetings.

“We wanted to focus on several issues to specifically plan work and we discussed them. These are likely to include education and ethnic minority issues. We agreed that we will be inviting them to Vilnius for one additional conversation, but we in general agreed that the assembly might take place as early as this year,” the vice speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas said.

Problems of the Polish minority in Lithuania overshadow Lithuanian-Polish relations but Warsaw has softened its tone lately and the two countries have exchanged high-ranking visit.

Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine currently also have a tripartite assembly.
